Shobak Castle

Perched dramatically on a rugged hilltop in southern Jordan, Shobak Castle — also known as Montreal Castle — is a hauntingly beautiful Crusader fortress built in the early 12th century. It was the first stronghold constructed by Baldwin I of Jerusalem during the Crusader campaigns, and today it stands as a symbol of medieval resilience.

Though partially in ruins, the castle still boasts stone towers, archways, and underground tunnels that whisper stories of ancient battles and sieges. One of the most fascinating features is a secret passageway that once connected the castle to a nearby spring — a vital lifeline during times of siege.
